October and November are the most pious months in the Indian calendar. There are two major national festivals celebrated during these months- Diwali and Chhath puja. The dates differ every year but Diwali fall on Amavasya. On this auspicious day, Lord Rama returned with Devi Sita and brother Lakshman to Ayodhaya and the people of Ayodhya lighted Diya and candles to welcome them. The entire Ayodhya was swayed by the celebrations and now it is celebrated as a national festival. Every year, we start the celebration by cleaning our home from a week ago and decorating our entire home with flowers, candles, and Rangoli. The festival has a religious significance attached to Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi arrives on this special day to bestow wealth and prosperity.
Chhath Puja: The sun alone is the source and the end
This auspicious festival of Chhath puja is one of the biggest celebrations of the year for the people of Bihar and neighboring states. Earlier, it was celebrated in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. However, now it is a national festival dedicated to the solar power of the earth, Lord Surya and his sister Shashti Devi.
